It will be a very cool July this year in Kenya, the National Meteorological Department announced, warning especially residents of Nairobi and the Rift Valley to prepare for extremely cold weather conditions starting this weekend until the end of June and then a stabilization however below the averages recorded in past years.
Particularly in the north, temperatures at night may reach below 5 degrees and during the day around 10. 
According to weather forecasts released by the Kenya Metrological Department, the country next week will experience prolonged hours of cloudiness with very few sunny intervals. 
"Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected over the highlands east of the Rift Valley and parts of the southeastern lowlands, the highlands west of the Rift Valley, and the central and southern Rift Valley," the statement said, "precipitation over the highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the central and southern Rift Valley, as well as parts of the highlands east of the Rift Valley and the coast. The rest of the country is expected to be generally dry."
Counties that will experience record low temperatures include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi.
Given the poor condition of much of the population, the Ministry of Health has advised its citizens to keep warm as much as possible, drink tea and use known methods to avoid cold-related respiratory diseases, and prevent flu and colds from escalating into cases of pneumonia. Remember that respiratory diseases are the leading cause of death in the country. The harsh weather is also among the causes of the increase in Covid-19 cases in recent days. Fortunately, no new deaths caused by the virus have been reported.
On the coast, temperatures will gradually drop below 25 degrees, but for now, days of uncertain and varied weather will continue, partly on the strength of the large "kusi" wind that alternates between variable cloudiness and moments of sunshine and rain.
